The numbers of the 25th World Congress of the International College of Psychosomatic Medicine are: 500 PARTICIPANTS from 37 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES disseminated in 5 CONTINENTS.
The programme included 2 plenary lectures, 5 update lectures, 54 symposia, 18 workshops, 6 pre-congress workshops, 6 case presentations. Among them, two tributes were proposed. One was devoted to the estimated colleague Per Bech, the other one was devoted to Massimo Rosselli. The congress highlights included presentations by outstanding international experts in psychosomatics. The overall aim was providing a full review of the most important aspects of Psychosomatic Medicine and latest achievements in this field. The inadequacy of the traditional biomedical model in clinical practice is still getting increasing recognition.
Psychosomatics represents an opportunity to improve clinical practice in medicine, psychiatry, and clinical psychology by integrating biological, psychological, and social factors. An increasing number of studies suggest that the clinical process leading to medical diagnosis should be also based on a proper assessment under the psychosomatic perspective.
Such approach may be an antidote to reductionistic models that derive from biological approaches, neglect individual responses to treatment, and clash with clinical reality.

Awards

ICPM BEST POSTER AWARDS: The ICPM offered €250 best poster awards to the 4 best posters presented at the 25th ICPM World Congress. A Commission chaired by Prof. Tom Sensky (UK) and composed by Prof. Antonio Barbosa (Portugal) and Prof. Chiharu Kubo (Japan) evaluated the posters on site. The awards were assigned to: Pedro Zuzarte for the poster P14, Michiyo Nosaka for the poster P18, Mark A. Ferro for the poster P114, Tomokazu Hata for the poster P155. The Commission also mentioned the relevance of poster P13, P95, and P 108. The winners were awarded during the Closing Ceremony on Friday 13th September 2019.

TRUST SIRIGATTI AWARD IN MEMORY OF MASSIMO ROSSELLI: The “Saulo Sirigatti Trust for studies and research in psychology” offered a € 800 award in memory of Massimo Rosselli for the best abstract for poster accepted at the 25th ICPM World Congress. A Commission chaired by Prof. Giovanni Fava (US) and composed by Prof. Fiammetta Cosci (Italy) and Prof. Gabor Keitner (US) evaluated the abstracts. The winner Danilo CArrozzino was awarded during the symposium “Culture and practice of psychosomatics: a tribute to Massimo Rosselli” on Thursday 12th September 2019 for the poster entitled “Clinimetric approach to rating scales for the assessment of somatization in gastroenterology: A systematic review”.

Psychosomatic Specialist Certificate

The Psychosomatic Specialist Certificate is a Title given by the International College on Psychosomatic Medicine which recognizes and supports physicians and Ph.D. level clinical psychologists who practice Psychosomatic Medicine across different disciplines. The Psychosomatic Specialists awarded from October 2017 to September 2019 received the Certificate during the opening ceremony of the 25th World Congress on Psychosomatic Medicine, they were Lucas Santos Argolo (Brazil), Danilo Carrozzino (Italy), Christian Fazekas (Austria), Ahmed Rady (Egypt).

Congress Dinner at Villa Finaly

The Congress Dinner was held on Thursday the 12th September 2019 at 7.30 pm. The venue of the Congress Dinner was the Villa Finaly, a marvelous Villa built in 15th century on the hills of Florence.

The Villa Finaly was built on the hills of Fiesole in the fifteenth century. In 1864, when Florence became the capital of Italy, James of Rothschild, owner of a bank in Turin bought the Villa to sell it in 1866 to Baron Horace de Landau, the procurator of his bank. Baron Horace de Landau was one of the most important financiers of the Florentine Risorgimento movements and father of the Italian currency called lira. A man of great culture, a lover of art and books, he built one of the largest libraries in Europe with 60,000 volumes, the library is nowadays at the second-floor of the Villa (today the Richelieu room). It was considered one of the most beautiful and important private libraries in Europe with a full-time private librarian.

The Villa was donated to the University of Paris by the Landau-Finaly family in 1953. In the 1990s, the 13 universities of Paris and Île de France, heirs of the ancient University of Paris, became owners of the Villa and decided to restore it in order to return it to the ancient splendor. The restored Villa was inaugurated on May 31, 2000.

Today, the heart of the Villa is still the eight-columned rotunda, surmounted by a dome and built on a courtyard dating back to the 16th century. The rotunda was built by the architect and urbanist Giuseppe Poggi in 1859. From the rotunda, you enter the reception rooms that then overlook the Italian garden. The reception rooms include the large Michelangelo gallery, covered with trompe-l’œil frescoes, with embedded columns and Venetian marble floor; the ancient music hall decorated with friezes and representations of muses, today called Sala Lulli; the Bernini living room, finely painted by frappe and trompe-l’œil. In the opposite wing the ancient stables, today called Leonardo da Vinci hall.
